Jhoe Garay is a guitarist based in New York. Currently studying
third year at The City College of New York in the jazz studies career. Since
the year 2014 has studied with iconic figures from the current jazz scene such as
Peter Bernstein, Lage Lund, Steve Wilson, Mike Holober, Freddie Bryant and Melissa
Aldana. She is an honorable creditor of the Kaye Scholarship and Latin GRAMMY Cultural Scholarships Foundation Scholarship, and winner of the 2017 Repsol Emerging Artist Award.
In the 2017 edition of The International Workshop for Jazz and Creative Music
organized by The Banff Center in Canada, Garay collaborated with artists
such as Vijay Iyer, Gary Bartz, Tyshawn Sorey, Tia Fuller, Gretchen
Parlato, Matt Stevens, Todd Whitelock, among others.
Garay has appeared in important forums in various countries. In the city of
New York has played in places like Cornelia St. Cafe, Mezzrow, Aaron Davis
Hall, The Stone NYC and The National Jazz Museum in Harlem. Also, she did
appearances in Canada at The Club at The Banff Center, Margaret Greenham Theater
and Rolston Hall.
She is currently working on her debut album where she explores her musical visions, based on tradition and expanding the harmonic possibilities, the music of Garay offers a refreshing sound.
